In a small town, a young woman applies make-up like layers of defence, preparing to go into battle. On top of the town tip, two friends stand guard as some home truths emerge. At the local arcade a grotesque ritual sacrifice is taking place. And a young woman obsessed with Stevie Nicks thinks she’s solved the mystery about the blood on the silo just out of town....

Presented by the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) Intersection 2018: Chrysalis is a production written by the best emerging young writers across the country. Each year ATYP,  brings together 20 young writers from across the country for their National Studio, an invaluable week of playwriting at Bundanon, Arthur Boyd’s beautiful property situated on the Shoalhaven river, Ilaroo, NSW

The studio challenges them to create stories that speak to the experience of being seventeen years old in Australia, here and now. Intersection 2018: Chrysalis is the meeting point of young lives travelling very different routes, a production that offers a unique snapshot of modern Australia.

Directed by Rachel Chant, Chrysalis was performed as part of ATYP @ Griffin, at the iconic SBW Stables Theatre in Kings Cross from 31 Jan - 17 Feb 2018.

BIN CHICKEN
By Madelaine Nunn

The tip’s closing down and Katy doesn’t know how to feel about that. Bin chicken is a choice between fitting in and belonging. A quirky and comedic small town story of two friends on the brink of change.

For this project Madelaine was mentored by Mary Rachel Brown.
